Bio:

Dr. Theresa Gilliland PMHNP FNP DNP, is Duel Board Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health NP and as a Family NP. She has training and experience treating patients with psychiatric disorders and those with complex medical diagnoses, across the lifespan. She has worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, county jails and federal prisons. She brings with her a breadth and depth of knowledge that allows her to be an effective and empathic provider, while providing compassionate and efficacious care. She has experience providing care in unconventional settings such as telehealth practice settings, mobile units, and even in Antarctica. Her education includes a BSN from Humboldt State University in California, a MHA from Chapman University in California, a FNP certification from Sonoma State University in California, and a DNP with PMHNP specialization, from the University of Missouri. Dr. Theresa Gilliland brings to any practice setting a humanistic philosophy of holistic care for body, mind and spirit and is committed to individualized, personalized, and comprehensive care for each patient. During her DNP program, she focused on teaching and developing a biology of addiction course geared toward relapse prevention and applied it to a court-ordered SUD population. On a personal note, being raised in an alcoholic environment influenced her to leave high school, get her GED, become emancipated at age 17, and not return to school until she was almost 30. She also became a single mother of a child with Traumatic Brain Injury, during her BSN program. All influenced her to become an FNP, PMHNP and the topic for her DNP project. She is currently licensed in California, New Mexico, and Colorado. She and husband are avid outdoors enthusiasts. They hike, rock climb, mountain bike, telemark ski and enjoy going to the opera and ballets. She completed her very first YouTube, in 2016, sharing the journey of she and her husband doing the John Muir Trail (JMT) in CA. The YouTube link is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E_RCdt2_p4 She and her husband completed the Camino De Santiago De Compostela in August of 2019. Her passion for health, wellness, and having a quality of life, along with her belief that health care is a right for all people and not an entitlement drives her practice.
